Love Around the World: Scotland-Based Romances

ROUND UP

Romances Set in Scotland

Celebrate the #TartanArmy with a little steamy romance in the Highlands.

For centuries Scotland has been associated with elopements — Gretna Green, especially. Its lush rolling hills, weather-worn castles and moody lighting makes for the most beautiful backdrop. Some may say, it’s the perfect setting for romance. Here are some of my favorite romances that embrace the dramatic landscape of Scotland.

Victoria Loves Romances Set in Scotland

We got married in Scotland, so it’s safe to say it holds a special place in my heart. Whenever I’m feeling nostalgic for the magic of that romantic week years ago, I gravitate towards a Scotland-based romance. From historical to contemporary to paranormal, there are so many wonderful escapes… and they usually feature an ultra grumpy tartan-wearing hunk with an accent so thick, you’ll want to swim in it.

Scotland-Based Romances Recommendations

  • (GRUMY-)SUNSHINE IN THE HIGHLANDS: TheHighland Fling by Meghan Quinn (Amazon)

I think about this book so often, I may have convinced myself it’s an alternate universe in which I’m the American who moves to the Scottish Highlands with my best friend to run a coffee shop… and my happy little romcom is full of witty banter, charming small-town personality and a whole lotta steam.

    VICTORIA’S RATING:4/5

  • A TOUR OF THE HIGHLANDS:Kilt Trip by Alexandra Kiley (Amazon)

For those who suffer from wanderlust! Fall in love with the beauty of Scotland… and another grumpy MMC. The best part? It’s part of a series of Scotland-based romances.

    VICTORIA’S RATING:4/5

  • STUCK IN A SCOTTISH CASTLE:Keep Me by Sara Cate (Amazon)

A marriage of convenience between a broody Scot who hosts the raunchiest castle parties and a tough-as-nails New Yorker who can’t help but find herself in hot water. But will living within the same castle walls turn their arrangement into something more? If anything, the forced proximity definitely turns up the heat. Warning: This series features a full cast of steamy Scotsmen.

    VICTORIA’S RATING:3.5/5

  • GO NORTH TO INVERNESS :Under Loch and Key by Lana Ferguson (Amazon)

Warning: If monster romance isn’t your cup of tea, you may want to skip this one. I wasn’t sure if I was… and this pretty much solidified that I am not. As always, Lana delivers great writing as she brings to life the mythical Loch Ness monster… who also happens to be a sexy grumpy Scotsman.

    VICTORIA’S RATING:3.5/5

  • ON MY TBR:

    • Work in Progress by Kat Mackenzie (Amazon)

    • Duke it Out (Loch Morven) by Bella James (Amazon)

The Best of the Best: Victoria’s Top Pick

THE ONE THAT STARTED IT ALL: Outlander by Diana Gabaldon (Amazon)

  • This is where it all started. Can one attribute a love of reading from a single book? Well, at the very least Outlander reminded me how much I enjoyed it. Diana Gabaldon created a world I was truly eager to escape to and characters I couldn’t wait to explore and fall in love with.

    VICTORIA’S RATING: 5/5

Until the next chapter!

xo, Victoria
