What We’re Reading in October 2025
CURRENTLY READING
Fang Fiction
by Kate Stayman-London
A pop-culture encyclopedia disguised as a witty romance novel that will transport you to an alternate world… where vampires walk among us.
Truthfully, I didn’t know I would be into the vamps, but I’m here for it!
I love the concept of a book about a book (or some kind of fictional entity with a fanatical base). It’s so easy to get swept up in the hype and all the different POVs we get from the podcasters to anon submissions to the side characters making vampy cultural references make the world feel that much more realistic. Honestly, I might actually believe vampires walk among us… gotta keep an eye out next time I’m in NYC.

What Victoria Loved
VICTORIA’S RATING: 4/5
I accidentally stayed up til 3am listening to the audiobook... and I’m not sorry!
I wish this was more open door because I can only imagine what Callum’s prowess was like… and after all the hype, I would’ve loved to have actually read about it and not just the aftermath. I meannnnn, come on. Give the people what we want! Tess deserves it.
And on that note, I think Tess’ experiences and trauma were handled with care. I appreciated that we received some context about the event to understand why she reacts the way she does throughout the book without having to relive the traumatic event on page. The triggers, the conversations, the behaviors Tess exhibits… It’s not an easy topic to address, but I think KSL respectfully represented that lived experience without diminishing it.
For my audiophiles, Amber Benson (the narrator) was great! So many characters to juggle, so many different accents and a range of personalities! Definitely got some Aubrey Plaza and Debi Mazar vibes — AND I LOVED IT.

A SUBJECT MATTER EXPERT, BUT WEREWOLF: Fan Service by Rosie Danan (Amazon)
Alex Lawson is a fangirl (and I mean that in the best sense of the word). Having grown up as an outcast in her small Florida town, Alex found her community through the online fan forum she built for The Arcane Files, a long-running werewolf show she had dedicated years of her life studying and archiving. But when her meet and greet with the show’s star, Devin Ashwood, goes awry, Alex’s hero-worship quickly turns into years-long disdain left simmering within. I was not expecting to like this as much as I did, but Rosie’s writing will trigger a sensory overload that’ll make it easy to get lost in this book. Warning: This is a shifter romance.
VICTORIA’S RATING: 3.5/5
STICKING WITH THE VAMPS: Bride by Ali Hazelwood (Amazon)
An HoH Book Club Pick! I was hooked on Bride within the first 50 pages – the tension between the characters built up so quickly and so deliciously, I was immediately invested in their relationship. I needed to snap the crackling heat… and fortunately, I was not disappointed. All you need to know is that the plane scene may have changed my life. Simply put, Bride satisfied the vampire-were craving.

AN ONLINE ALTER-EGO: Spoiler Alert by Olivia Dade (Amazon)
The star of the biggest TV show is secretly a fanfic author (who writes the script he wishes existed IRL for Aeneas and Lavinia) and asks out a hardcore Lavinia fan who goes viral for her plus-size cosplay. Stars literally align for Marcus and April in this sweet romcom.

BY THIS AUTHOR: One to Watch by Kate Stayman-London (Amazon)
Bea Schumacher has just agreed to serve as the star for the next season of a reality dating show. She is determined to supercharge her career as a plus-size fashion blogger, subvert harmful anti-fat beauty standards, and inspire women across America… and she has no intention of falling in love. And when the lights turn on and the cameras are rolling, I’m pretty sure we’re the ones falling in love with Bea and her beau(s).
