What We’re Reading in April 2026

Never would I have thought that I’d be rooting for serial killers to fall in love!

What a treat! As someone with a reputation for being easily scared and fainting at the sight of blood, I was surprised to have enjoyed this as much as I did. Ever wonder what happens to the victims that were rescued at the end of a Criminal Minds episode? Well, here’s a sneak peek with dark flashbacks woven into an idyllic small town plot line with humorous twists

What Victoria Loved

VICTORIA’S RATING: 4/5

The writing was superb! BW gives us the over-the-top macabre descriptions alongside the playful analogies that left me unsteady in the best way. BW’s ability to switch from gore to spice to humor is unmatched— my emotions couldn’t keep up. And it was honestly quite a mindfck to realize I was chuckling out loud while a literal decapitated body was on the page… like just imagine what sort of trauma that realization will put your mind through. Yet, here I am, eager for Book 2 because I can’t get enough of this plot or these characters.

And how can one not become obsessed with these characters when they’re riffing with each other at every level — the dialogue is witty, the murder is brutal, and the feelings are so cozy. After everything they’ve experienced individually, it’s kismet for them to end up together. And honestly, their relationship had me questioning all my morals because I was rooting for them to get away with actual murder… and was plotting against the “good guys” who were hot on their trails for the reveal.

The second book comes out in a month! And I’m glad I waited to read this because that cliffhanger blew my mind.

If You Loved Tourist Season, You’ll Love These

  • A MASKED HERO & A SERIAL KILLER’S DAUGHTER: Lights Out by Navessa Allen (Amazon)

Nothing I expected, yet everything I didn’t know I needed. It’s giving You with more spice. A masked man, hidden cameras, a chase through the woods. I’m a mix of scared, concerned, and intrigued. I can’t say this flavor of activity is for me… primal and the threat of blood just triggers my nausea and fainting spells just doesn’t work. But I was thoroughly entertained.

    VICTORIA’S RATING:3.5/5

  • A DARK TRAUMA-BOND BETWEEN CAPTIVES: Still Beating by Jennifer Hartmann (Amazon)

This was SO hard to read… but I couldn’t stop. I knew what I was getting into based on the synopsis, but I wasn’t actually prepared for it, you know? The scenes from the basement are not for the lighthearted. I’m always looking for books that will make me sit in agony and this certainly delivers.

    VICTORIA’S RATING:3.75/5

  • ROBINHOOD CRIMINALS: Flock (Ravenhood #1) by Kate Stewart (Amazon)

This is a slow-burn suspense. These men are mysterious and mostly secretive and that’s the draw and source of the “thrill”. I was ready to settle this series at the end of book 1 after an intriguing twist, but the third book in this series was my favorite by far and the series ended on a high note.

    VICTORIA’S RATING:3.25/5

  • BY THIS AUTHOR: Butcher & Blackbird(The Ruinous Love Trilogy #1) by Brynne Weaver (Amazon)

This is on my TBR! The FMC from Tourist Season is from the Ruinous Love Trilogy, so if you’d like more of Harper, add this to your TBR.

    VICTORIA’S RATING:TBD

Until the next chapter!
