Closing Day Must-Haves

DREAM HAUS

Closing Day Must-Haves

All the things we packed for the day-of and the top items on our to-do list. Plus the stuff we didn’t think of!

Closing Day is a big day! And there are quite a few things that happen:

  1. You do the final walkthrough of the home to confirm it’s in the same condition as when you placed your offer and the previous owners have left it in a condition that meets your expectations (i.e., it’s clean, furnished or unfurnished based on your sale agreement, the appliances that should be there were left behind, no natural disasters or other damage has occurred, etc.).

  2. If all things look good, you sign the paperwork and exchange funds! This could mean finalizing your down payment for those who are financing or completing a cash purchase.

  3. Once the wire transfer has successfully gone through, you get the keys to your home!

With all the excitement, we wanted to be prepared — especially because we’re moving to a different state.

OUR CLOSING DAY CHECKLIST

  • Government-issued ID - you’ll need this when you’re signing documents at closing

  • Check book - you’ll need this to complete your transaction at closing

  • Pen - if you have a special pen you use to sign important documents

  • Flashlight - depending on the time of day you’re viewing the house, or if electricity has been shut off. You’ll need this to properly inspect your home during the final walkthrough.

  • Tape measure - if everything looks good and you want to get a head start on planning any pre-move updates.

  • Notebook - to document your findings during the final walkthrough

  • Camera (or just make sure your phone has enough storage) - don’t forget to document the big day!

This list will vary for each person based on your needs, but this is what worked for us. While this checklist will help you pack for the day, make sure you also account for celebrating the milestone! We called our loved ones as soon as the ink was dry and we officially had the keys. It was a big moment for us and we were glad to share it with our family and friends.

Until our next chapter!
